Outlook Smart Filer currently works with Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2003. If you are interested in using Outlook Smart filer on earlier versions of Outlook, please contact us for more information.

Outlook Smart Filer uses the Microsoft supplied components listed below (which must be installed by an Administrator).

Outlook Smart Filer itself is

 Installed into the "Documents and Settings\user\Application" folder
 Updates the current user registry settings
 Creates and updates a hidden working folder in the user's "My Documents"

Thus on normal computers, Outlook Smart Filer itself must be installed by the user (and this will work even if they do not have Administrator permissions).

(On Terminal Services / Citrix, Outlook Smart Filer is not installed like this but is installed into "program files" as usual - for more details please see Citrix Install.)

Manual Installation

These hyperlinks are for use where you wish to manually install the various Microsoft components.

These can either be used where the user who is installing Outlook Smart Filer does not have Administrator permissions or where there is a difficulty using the "normal" installation routines.

The process to be followed is as follows:

Whilst signed in as an Administrator, download and install the three components indicated on this page (choosing the correct components for the version of Outlook).

Once the components have been installed, the user then needs to sign on with their normal user ID (whether this is as an Administrator or with basic user permissions). and should then use the "normal" installation routines which will work as they will recognise that the Microsoft components are already installed.
